Who are we?

Thread & Trace Historical Consulting was founded on a simple belief: everyone has a history worth understanding, and accessing that history shouldn't require a PhD or a trust fund.

We're a small, community-rooted practice based in the Upstate of South Carolina, dedicated to making historical research personal, accessible, and deeply human. With Master's level training in History and years of academic experience, we bring professional expertise to genealogy, antique identification, estate support, and historical research without the academic jargon or the corporate price tag.

What makes us different?

You're working with a real historian, not an algorithm. Every project gets personal attention, careful research, and thoughtful interpretation. We don't rely on automated family tree generators or AI-written reports. Your history deserves better than that.

We actually answer the phone. Need to ask a question? Want to talk through what you've found? You can reach us directly. No customer service queue, no chatbot, no runaround.

Accessible pricing without cutting corners. Many genealogists charge $100-150 per hour. We believe historical research should be available to regular people: families, retirees, church communities, anyone who wants to understand where they came from. Our rates reflect that commitment.

We care about the story, not just the data. Dates and documents matter, but what matters more is helping you understand why your great-grandmother made the choices she did, what that Civil War letter actually means, how the objects you inherited fit into the larger story of your family. We turn research into narrative, and facts into meaning.

We meet you where you are. Whether you're a complete beginner or you've been researching for years, whether you have boxes of documents or just a single photograph, we approach every client with respect, patience, and genuine curiosity about their story.

History isn't just our job. It's our calling. And we're here to help you discover yours.
